A Brush With Secularism Exhibition
“We, the people of India, having solemnly resolved to constitute India into a Sovereign Socialist Secular Democratic Republic…” This is the Preamble of India’s Constitution and while a handful of our citizens seem to have erased the word SECULAR from their vocabulary, the artists at Art Laureate have painted Secular strokes. Secularism is the core of our nation…it is the spirit which binds us together allowing us to grow as a tolerant nation respecting one another’s beliefs. Artist Kishore Roy has depicted the Magic of the Flute to spread joy and harmony, Sangeeta Murthy’s subtle Ganeshji and Turtles are for good fortune and longevity, Shalini’s work shows that Nirvana can be attained through any religion, Rabab Zaidi portrays the importance of maintaining a balance and Joshua’s painting talks about the Seven Gifts of the Holy Spirit  – Wisdom, Understanding, Counsel, Fortitude, Knowledge, Piety and Fear of the Lord. Whether it is through Buddha or through Krishna, the message is the same – love, compassion and tolerance are essential for happiness.
